The French-American Foundation has announced the French-American Foundation and Florence Gould Foundation 29th Annual Translation Prizes in the categories of Fiction and Nonfiction. Each translator receives a $10,000 award, plus of course the glory of being chosen. With no further ado, here are this year’s winners:
Fiction:
Sam Taylor, for his translation of The Heart by Maylis de Kerangal (Farrar, Straus & Giroux)
Nonfiction:
Jane Marie Todd for The French Resistance by Olivier Wieviorka (Harvard University Press)
Lauren Elkin and Charlotte Mandell for Jean Cocteau: A Life by Claude Arnaud (Yale University Press)
(Two sets of translators split the prize this year.)
Apologies for the much-belated posting; the news just reached me; mieux vaut tard que jamais, n’est-ce pas? Congratulations to the winning translators!
