Translation on Tap in NYC June 9 – 15, 2014

OBERIU_1Apparently all this week’s translation events will be held on Monday. Plan accordingly.

Monday, June 9:
Panel discussion: “The Old Woman, OBERIU and the Russian Dissident Tradition,” with Eugene Ostashevsky, Matvei Yankelevich, and Mark Krotov, moderated by Ian Dreiblatt. How many Russian translators does it take to screw in a still-vibrant avant garde tradition? Come find out! BAM is about to put on a version of “The Old Woman,” by the way, based on a story by the great Daniil Kharms. You’ll want to be prepared. Greenlight Bookstore, 686 Fulton St., Brooklyn, more information here.  7:30 p.m.

Also Monday, June 9:
Mexican novelist Jorge Volpi, will be speaking, in English, about his not-yet-out-in-English new novel Deceit, accompanied by his translator, Alfred MacAdam. Instituto Cervantes, 211-215 East 49th Street, more information here. 7:00 p.m.
